The Most Difficult Thing Of All

It’s rooted in love, in concern and good intentions.

It’s revealed in how we experience the urge to call out to a preschooler when they forget to say goodbye, when they are already so focused on what lies ahead that they have already left us in a moment which is now, for them, the past.

As educators, we encounter it when we can’t resist that last, unwanted piece of advice after presenting a new piece of material.

It reassures us.

It makes us feel good.

But we need to remember that we are there to support, to provide encouragement. And after that, to do what is the most necessary and yet the most difficult thing of all.

Letting go is hard.
