Two Different Perspectives

He is fascinated by the fact that snails were living on this planet before the first humans, and his eyes reflect his wonderment while he explains how and when he discovered this information.

She notices that they are yellow, just like her rain boots.

He wonders what they enjoy eating, and I offer to help him look up the answer (rather than admitting my own lack of confidence on this subject).

She hears him say “gastropod” and begins to repeat the word over and over again.

He beckons to her to come closer, and when she holds out her hand to hold one he explains that the snail will be happier if they just look with their eyes, and leave it exactly where it is.

She loves his energy, his dramatic interaction with the world and his willingness to involve her in his magical discoveries. He is taller than she, and he seems to know things. Yet, she wonders why he has forgotten to tie his shoelaces and whether he knows that his buttons are undone.

Just three years separate them, and yet they exist within different development planes, characterized by distinct behaviors.

They offer two different perspectives on life.

Have you noticed the beauty of diversity within a timeless moment such as this?

He will never forget the size of her tiny hand as she held it out patiently.

And she will forever remember the word “gastropod.”
