ingredients

  • One medium turnip, peeled & sliced

  • Three parsnips, peeled & sliced

  • Six carrots, peeled & sliced

  • Two onions, peeled & sliced

  • One lb lean stewing beef, cubed, floured  and lightly browned in a saute pan

  • Two beef stock cubes

preparation

  • Bring six cups of water to  a boil in a heavy pan

  • Add vegetables

  • Add beef

  • Add stock cubes

  • Stir gently until water returns to a boil

  • Simmer at a low heat for 90 minutes

  • Serve with crusty bread and butter

Ready in 90 minutes

Serves  4-6 people
